You Can Still Preorder 3D All-Stars, But Only Digitally | IGN

Super Mario 3D All-Stars isn’t a normal game release. Nintendo is calling it a limited-edition game, with the physical version being offered in a “limited run.” Even the digital version is set to be available on the Nintendo eShop only until the end of March 2021.

While we don’t have details for just how many units Nintendo is printing of the physical version, it’s already sold out everywhere. But not all hope is lost–it’s still available in digital form. Here’s where you can preorder it.

super-mario-3d-all-stars You Can Still Preorder 3D All-Stars, But Only Digitally | IGNSuper Mario 3D All-Stars releases on Nintendo Switch on September 18. That’s coming right up, so fans of the world’s most famous Italian plumber won’t have to wait long to get their hands on it. 3D All-Stars is a collection of three classic 3D platformers that originally appeared on three generations of Nintendo hardware.

What games are we talking about here? We’re talking about the 1996 Nintendo 64 classic Super Mario 64, which helped pave the way for 3D gaming in general back when the concept seemed fairly futuristic. Then there’s the 2002 GameCube platformer Super Mario Sunshine, a divisive entry in the series if ever there was one. And finally, it includes the 2007 Wii masterpiece Super Mario Galaxy. You can see our reviews for those games (and more) in our feature Every Mainline Mario Review Ever.

All of the games have lightly improved graphics and higher resolutions so they’ll look good on modern screens. Super Mario Sunshine got an entirely new 16:9 aspect ratio. Also, Nintendo has optimized the controls for Super Mario Galaxy so you can use Joy-Cons to do the things that required the Wii remote in the original. The collection also comes with a music player mode that lets you browse through to the original soundtrack of each game.

As usual with Nintendo games, Super Mario 3D All Stars is only coming out in a standard edition. No special edition has been announced, though Walmart is giving away a sticker set with preorders. In the meantime, if you do preorder the game, you can check out how to snag yourself a free pin set. You’ll get pins from Mario 1, 2, 3, World, and 64. It’s pretty cool.
