Alan Tudyk has rightfully become a sci-fi icon thanks to his scene-stealing roles in hits like Firefly, Star Wars: Rogue One, and Doom Patrol (to name only a few), so it’s no surprise that his new project is a delightfully self-aware Syfy series that blends so much of what audiences love about the actor: an offbeat character, a deliciously dark sense of humor, and a fresh take on a familiar genre.
Based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, Syfy’s Resident Alien follows Tudyk’s Harry, “an alien that crash lands on Earth and passes himself off as a small-town human doctor. Arriving with a secret mission to kill all humans, Harry starts off living a simple life… but things get a bit rocky when he’s roped into solving a local murder and realizes he needs to assimilate into his new world. As he does so, he begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his mission and asking the big life questions like: ‘Are human beings worth saving?’ and ‘Why do they fold their pizza before eating it?'”
At Resident Alien’s New York Comic Con panel, moderated by IGN’s Laura Prudom (hey, that’s me!), Syfy debuted the opening minutes of the series premiere, which will be released in January 2021. If you missed the panel, never fear, you can watch the opening seven minutes here on IGN to get a taste of the show’s deranged sense of humor (it gets even funnier and weirder from here).
Resident Alien was adapted for TV by executive producer and showrunner Chris Sheridan and stars Tudyk, Sara Tomko (Once Upon A Time), Corey Reynolds (The Closer), Alice Wetterlund (Silicon Valley), and Levi Fiehler (Mars).
