Marvel Studios is moving ahead with Black Panther 2 even as the studio has yet to decide what to do about the character of T’Challa in the wake of actor Chadwick Boseman’s death earlier this year.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Black Panther 2 begins filming in Atlanta in July 2021, with a shoot that could last up to six months under the direction of Ryan Coogler.
“Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett are expected to return for the new feature, with some saying Wright’s character may take on a more prominent role,” THR claims.

After Boseman died, a vocal contingent of fans online has campaigned for Wright’s character Shuri, the genius kid sister of T’Challa, to assume the duties of the Black Panther as she did in the Marvel comics.
THR also reports that Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta (Narcos: Mexico, Sin Nombre) has been cast as one of the sequel’s unspecified villains.
While Marvel Studios’ boss Kevin Feige remains involved, THR claims Feige’s attention is most focused on launching all the many Marvel series coming to Disney+ over the next year or so, with the movie pipeline being deemed a more well-oiled machine at this point.
