Xbox Game Pass in May 2021: Dragon Quest Builders, Red Dead Online and More | IGN

May looks like another solid line-up for Xbox Game Pass, although arguably not as exciting as MLB: The Show ’21 coming to Game Pass on launch day last month. I say “arguably” because there’s a case to be made this month’s offerings run the gamut but none of them have quite the same impact as a PlayStation Studios-developed sports game hitting Xbox’s game subscription service on launch.

But the games are great! And if you’re a member you still have access to all the other games on the service. So if you missed out on MLB last month, you can sign up right now and download it to your Series X or Series S and be playing as soon as your internet speeds allow.

Here’s the best way to save on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate:

Best Game Pass Deal: 4-Months of Ultimate for $29.99

The best deal in Game Pass Ultimate, hands down, involves a slight workaround, but if you don’t mind putting in the extra minute or two of work, you save big time. Get yourself set up with 12-months of EA Play, and once you redeem the code it converts into Game Pass Ultimate.

Coming to Game Pass May 2021

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is the headliner this month, and if you’re thinking it’s just Minecraft with a Dragon Quest skin, that’s a massive oversimplification. It’s an extremely charming world-building game with more than a passing resemblance to Minecraft, sure, but it differentiates itself, and sticks to the source material, expertly. You can start playing it May 4, and it will be available for the foreseeable future if you don’t want to dive right in.

Here’s the full list of games coming to Xbox Game Pass in May 2021:

  • Dragon Quest Builders 2 (May 4)
  • FIFA 21 (May 6)
  • Outlast 2 (May 6)
  • Steep (May 6)
  • Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (May 13)
  • Just Cause 4: Reloaded (May 13)
  • Psychonauts (May 13)
  • Red Dead Online (May 13)

Red Dead Online is another notable addition to Game Pass, and as a (lapsed) PC player, I might have to put the posse back together. Red Dead Online continues Rockstar’s excellent track record with online gaming and is on-par with GTA Online as far as varied missions, continued support, and level of bonkers stuff that can happen in-game. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re an Xbox Game Pass subscriber.
