Why Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade Picked Yuffie Over Cid And Vincent | IGN

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade’s biggest addition is the new Yuffie DLC, which will send everyone’s favorite materia hunter on a new adventure. But why did Square Enix pick Yuffie over Vincent, her fellow secret character, or a core cast member like Cid?

The PlayStation Blog posed this question to Final Fantasy 7 Remake director Tetsuya Nomura. Nomura explained that Yuffie made the most sense for where Final Fantasy 7 Remake is in the story, which is shortly after the conclusion of Disc 1 in the original game.

“The overarching story follows the original, so considering where this lies in the storyline, Vincent is still in his slumber and Cid is on Shinra’s side, so Yuffie was the only one who would be able to move freely,” Nomura said.”

In the original game, Yuffie was a secret character who could be encountered shortly after exiting the Mythril Mine on the way to Junon. Yuffie has a small chance of appearing in forest encounters, at which point she can be recruited into the party. Later on, she steals the party’s materia. Thankfully, because Yuffie is the protagonist in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, the party should be safe (for now).

Square Enix has been dropping all sorts of tidbits about Yuffie in the run-up to Intergrade, including the surprising origin of her Moogle costume. In the new interview, Nomura also covers Yuffie’s age, her mischievous personality, and why Square Enix chose a shuriken as her weapon.

As for Vincent, he’ll undoubtedly show up at some point, but he’s still slumbering in the basement of the Shinra Mansion in Nibelheim. This is Yuffie’s time to shine, and we’ll get to see her full adventure when Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade releases on June 10.
