Indiana Jones 5 seems to be set during 1969, or at least one scene in the movie appears to be taking place in that year.
Sky News reported that a cast member had suffered a fall whilst filming the new Indiana Jones movie on location in Glasgow, Scotland. According to the report, the actor appeared to be involved in a chase scene with Harrison Ford’s globe-trotting archaeologist when he barged through a brass band of sailors performing at an Apollo 11 ticker-tape parade.
Set photos reveal the streets of Glasgow had been transformed to mimic those of New York City’s Manhatten, which is where the returning Apollo 11 astronauts received a tumultuous welcome when they participated in a motorcade down Broadway and Park Avenue in 1969 — indicating that movie, or at least part of it, takes place during this time period.
It’s understood that the actor who had taken a tumble was not seriously hurt. He was reportedly joined on set by body doubles for Ford and Boyd Holbrook, who were both involved in a chase scene at the historical event. Ford’s double could be seen riding a horse and, per the report, burst “through a banner that had the words ‘a giant leap for mankind.'”
If the movie is set in 1969, then that means the events of Indiana Jones 5 will take place 12 years after the events of the series’ fourth installment, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which was set during 1957. The movie has been confirmed to conclude Indiana Jones’ journey, though virtually nothing else has been revealed about the plot or the setting up until now.
We did, however, get our first peek at Ford in full Jones regalia last month, just a few weeks before reports emerged that Ford had injured his shoulder during a fight scene rehearsal. The extent of the injury wasn’t disclosed but Disney confirmed that production would continue and the filming schedule would be reconfigured as needed while Ford recovers.
